Tomorrow is the last day of the International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show (ITTES) 2016, and its huge schedule is promising to make the closing day a showstopper.

“We have experienced a fantastic turnout on the first day of the Show yesterday, and today has followed suit with workers and key decision makers from within the transport, roads and civil works and waste management industries coming together at the Melbourne Showgrounds to do business,” said Show Director, Simon Coburn, from the Showgrounds today.

“Tomorrow is shaping up to be a massive day. At 10am, we will open up the gates to the Melbourne Truck Show to the public, and there is plenty for people of all ages to do and see.

“As well as the spectacular working Australian trucks, trailers and equipment on display, we’ve ramped up Saturday to be a real family day, with jumping castle and face painting for the kids.”

Saturday’s events will kick off at 11am with the Hiab World Crane Championships Australian Qualifying rounds. Taking place on the Test Track, the spectacle will see contestants navigate their way through a series of obstacles to see who can operate their Hiab crane with the most precision, while setting the fastest track times.

Also on the Test Track, Iveco Australia will be demonstrating its ACCO 6×4 featuring Bucher Municipal’s latest Gen V Series II sideloader unit, and a Daily 20m3 van. At 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, show-goers can not only see the vehicle operating but, by invitation, also drive and operate the truck if they hold the correct licence.

Later Saturday afternoon, judging will take place for the eye-catching custom trucks taking part in what has proven to be the largest Show and Shine competition in ITTES history. Already impressing visitors across the Show’s two trade days, over $30,000 in cash and prizes, including two Hella 350mm LED Light Bars from lighting specialist Hella Australia (pictured below), will be awarded based on design and craftsmanship.

Tickets and parking can be pre-purchased here.

According to DK Thermal, the young company has launched several trailer refrigeration units in a much talked-about Australian first.

“DK Thermal is a 50/50 Joint Venture merging Denso Corporation, which has specialised in automotive technology and refrigeration for decades, and Kingtec, which is China’s largest transport refrigeration company,” said Johan Holmstrom, Director of Kingtec in Australia.

Kingtec will be the Australian and New Zealand distributor for the DK Thermal product, with the new partnership leveraging on the distribution network and reputation that the Chinese company has built over the 15 years that it has been in the local commercial road transport market. “Denso will be using Kingtec’s Australian expertise and distributor network to make an entry into the region,” Holmstrom said.

“Over the next 12 months, DK Thermal will be testing new units in Australia, so we’ll be talking to fleets at the Show to find partners to test the new designs.

“It’s truly an exciting time for the transport refrigeration scene in Australia and New Zealand, because the size and scope of Denso is just astounding. If you want to talk companies that are ‘bigger than Ben Hur’, Denso is definitely one of them. It’s bigger than any Australian company, and along with its size it has a really solid reputation for automotive electronic excellence.”

According to the ATA, the exhibit will include the ATA’s travelling road safety exhibition, the Safety Truck, top of the line trucking industry equipment, and a prize desk where people can get clues and receive a prize for completing the scavenger hunt.

ATA Communications and Corporate Relations Manager, Steve Power, said the scavenger hunt would focus on the ATA’s truckies top tips for driving safely around heavy vehicles.

“The road safety scavenger hunt is free for all attendees at the show, and encourages visitors to search for road safety messages hidden around ITTES,” he said. “Once all the messages have been found, you can return to the ATA’s display to receive a prize for your efforts.

“Visitors are also invited to come into the Safety Truck, where you can try your hand at the road safety app, see the Safety Truck videos and displays, and grab a free show bag.”

The ATA will have a number of major announcements during the show, including recognising a new Bridgestone Bandag Highway Guardian for a tremendous act of compassion on the road.

“A brand new Volvo prime mover and a new CIMC drop deck curtain-sider trailer will be on display for the official launch of the 2016 ATA Auction,” Power said. “This is a great opportunity for trucking operators to get a close look and further information about these units before the auction.

“We will also officially launch national TruckWeek 2016 and the 2016 PACCAR & Dealer TMC, with a brief insight into what these two events will contain this year.”

According to Cleanaway, the company will have a team of experts from various parts of the business to answer queries from current and potential clients, whether it be about disposing of hazardous waste streams or implementing an organics recycling project.

The team will also be delighted to talk about how it is supporting Paintback, Australia’s world-first, waste paint collection scheme.

Working together with Cleanaway, Paintback aims to collect more than 45,000 tonnes of waste paint over the next five years: significantly reducing the amount going to landfill and maximising the inherent value of the recyclable materials.

Cleanaway has signed a three-year contract as Paintback’s national partner, providing drop off and collection services across the country. Twelve Cleanaway sites will be ready to accept waste paint, following the scheme’s launch on 2 May. Paintback has also invited local councils to become collection points for the program, which Cleanaway will also service as its national collection partner.

“For more than 50 years, Cleanaway has supported Australian industry, business and communities – delivering a comprehensive range of total waste management solutions, underpinned by our industry leading innovation and service,” said Head of Marketing & Communications Alison Chalmer.

“We are proud to support the first Waste Management in Action Expo in Melbourne. We’d encourage those looking after environmental solutions for councils and private businesses to visit our stand, meet our team, see our new brand in action and find out how our range of total waste management solutions can be tailored to meet their needs.”

“Fatigue is one of the biggest risk areas and therefore one of the most highly legislated in the transport industry,” Teletrac Navman said.

“As one of the pillars of the Chain of Responsibility, fatigue laws and compliance regulations are necessary to ensure driver and community safety; transport operators need to keep a close eye on compliance and be up to date with driver work and rest hours, which is not a simple task, especially when considering a completely manual paper based system.”

Teletrac Navman added, “Fatigue management laws are complex. Compliance with national and state standards can be easily achieved through EWD solutions that provide instant feedback both the driver and back office.

“The significance of how much this technology can ensure compliance is clear in the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s recent decision to introduce EWD solutions as an alternative to the driver’s paper work diary.”

EWD solutions offer a flexible platform for drivers to manage their obligations to Australia’s fatigue laws and the Chain of Responsibility, allowing transport operators and their management team to focus on more strategic initiatives.

“By providing greater assurance to everyone in the transport chain, EWDs improve the management of driver fatigue and contribute to improved road safety,” Teletrac Navman said. “With the required use of certified telematics, operators are assured by secure and insightful fatigue information.”

Promising some of the country’s most impressive customised trucks, Show Director, Simon Coburn, said he has been working with the team at Australian Custom Trucks to make the Show & Shine the richest event of its type in ITTES history, with the massive prize pool reaching over $30,000 in cash and prizes.

Equipment to be won includes a SAF-Holland aluminium fifth wheel plus fitting, Silverback Chrome Exhaust Stacks from Windsor Exhaust Centre, two Apollo Steer Tyres from Treadcare, and two Chrome Aluminium wheel and Drive tyre packages from Mesh# Accessories and Atlas Tyres.

Also up for grabs are two Hella 350mm LED Light Bars from lighting specialist Hella Australia (pictured below), which has recently diversified into braking with the addition of its Textar and Don aftermarket ranges.

Australian Custom Trucks publisher, Chris Smith, said the Show and Shine competition will be a major drawcard for the truck-loving public, who are invited to explore the Show on Saturday, 7 May.

“Custom trucks come in all shapes and sizes, but one thing they all have in common is they excite the next generation of transport workers. In that sense, it’s a great advertisement for the transport and logistics industry in general,” Smith said.
